The New Mexico State Veterinarian, Dr. Dave Fly, and the New Mexico
Livestock Board have announced new regulatory rules that will affect
horses traveling in New Mexico.
Effective April 1, 2009, any horse traveling within the State of New
Mexico to any equestrian event, exhibition, show, or gathering of
horses, must have a current negative Coggins test. See below:

Effective April 1st, 2009
HORSES
* Proof of ownership must accompany the animal; either an NMLB "form
1"
certificate
of inspection, or a 1-H permanent inspection card.
* A current negative Coggins test, performed within the preceding
twelve months, must accompany the animal.
* Any horse arriving from out-of-state must be accompanied by a
current health certificate and Coggins test.
* All breeding stallions 12 months and older must be accompanied by
a negative Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA) test within the previous 30
days, or proof of vaccination.
