The New Mexico State Veterinarian, Dr. Dave Fly, and the New Mexico Livestock Board have announced new regulatory rules that will affect horses traveling in New Mexico.
Effective April 1, 2009, any horse traveling within the State of New Mexico to any equestrian event, exhibition, show, or gathering of horses, must have a current negative Coggins test. See below:

HORSES

* Proof of ownership must accompany the animal; either an NMLB "form 1"
certificate
of inspection, or a 1-H permanent inspection card.
* A current negative Coggins test, performed within the preceding twelve months, must accompany the animal.
* Any horse arriving from out-of-state must be accompanied by a current health certificate and Coggins test.
* All breeding stallions 12 months and older must be accompanied by a negative Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA) test within the previous 30 days, or proof of vaccination.

Meddleton Equine Hospital is now open and available for emergency surgeries (e.g.colic surgery), referral surgeries, critical care patients, or hospitalization cases. We are staffed for 24 hour treatment, care and monitoring of equine patients.
